After attending the "Courage to Be Safe" Program, I left with a challenge of what I could do to remind each of my staff to work safely each shift. When I returned to work I recruited several firefighters to assist me in the project. After gaining administrative support and several planning meetings, we came up with the "Every One Goes Home" Safety Board.
The board is 4 foot x 4 foot board featuring the Everyone Goes Home® logo, the HCFD scramble, and the words Everyone Goes Home®. On the board members are encouraged to pinup pictures of their loved ones, pets, and hobbies. This is a reminder of why they should work safely.
A safety message is posted every month and included in our daily musters at the station level. A literature rack on the board is also used to place related safety messages and articles on safe operations. You can find one of these safety boards in every fire station in Henry County.
The program is catching on and pictures are starting to add up. It is exciting to see everyone participating and demonstrating that Henry County Fire Department supports the Everyone Goes Home® Program and the16 Firefighter Life Safety Initiatives.
